AI-automated rebate and incentive discovery from NexRev

There’s a world of opportunities available to reduce your energy costs. Taking advantage of them just got a whole lot easier! Let’s find out how…

AI-automated rebate and incentive discovery from NexRev

As a facility or building manager, you’re probably aware that there are numerous Federal, State, and utility incentive programs available to help you to reduce the cost of investment in energy-saving measures.

It’s less likely, though, that you’re aware of all the opportunities that could help you at any given moment — and that’s because discovering the relevant programs is in many cases a challenge.

Why? Well, there are a lot of them, they may change frequently, and they’re dispersed across a broad landscape that takes time, research, and (until now at least), manpower that isn’t always available. In this blog, we’re going to show you how you can quickly and easily overcome those barriers.

A wide horizon

Before we show you, though, let’s start with a quick survey of the landscape of programs available. We’re talking about the range of Federal, State, and utility-level incentive programs that help businesses like yours reduce their energy costs by funding efficiency upgrades, demand management, and more. We’ll outline the broad characteristics of each category:

Federal programs

Generally, Federal programs provide tax credits, deductions, or direct rebates, for example, the Commercial Building Energy Efficiency Deduction. Section 179D has provided tax deductions for energy-efficient lighting, HVAC, and building envelope upgrades allowing businesses to claim up to $5.00 per square foot depending on how much energy savings they achieve.

State programs

Many states run rebate funds, grant programs, and/or tax incentives with the aim of supplementing the federal support we’ve just noted. For example, in New York, there are NYSERDA Programs such as the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Energy Efficiency Program which have provided incentives for lighting, HVAC, controls, and industrial process improvements.

Utility Programs

Many utilities offer rebates and demand management programs that help them manage grid load by offering incentives to reduce power consumption.

Examples of such programs include PG&E (California) which offers energy efficiency rebates for installing high-efficiency HVAC, refrigeration, and lighting; Duke Energy (Southeast & Midwest)’s Smart $aver Program which offers rebates and incentives for deploying equipment like variable frequency drives, chillers, and LED lighting; and Con Edison (New York City)’s Commercial & Industrial Energy Efficiency Program which also offers rebates for efficient lighting, controls, HVAC, and refrigeration upgrades as well as free energy audits to identify opportunities.

The catch? As we said, first you must know what’s available to you, and second you have to commit to the process of pursuing it. Which is not always straightforward, and can become difficult.
